south carolina trip - pt. 3

Lately I've been completely obsessed with Father John Misty and specifically with this song... Only Son of the Ladiesman: here. It's just so good. My solitary weekend was filled with some good music... I've been slowly adding to my Spotify playlists.

I'm recovering well from surgery... it wasn't serious enough to be worried about, but not minor enough to bounce back from in a day. So I've had a nice little break from real life... I enjoyed being a shut in and the rain we had made it so cozy.

Here are more photos from my trip last month. I've been messing around more and more with the the VSCO film packs I have and I'm so in love with them all. The very last photo I edited with a combo of a VSCO filter and a photoshop action I purchased from one of my favorite photographers, Bliss Katherine Braoudakis. photoshop actions aren't something I've ever put much time into, but Bliss sells them on her Etsy site and I love the Color Curve I got from her a few months ago so I wanted to give it a try. The one I used on the photo down below is Daydream.

south carolina trip - pt. 2

It feels easier to edit and post these in smaller chunks... less overwhelming.

I've been laying low since yesterday afternoon. I had a minor surgery on my mouth yesterday afternoon. Not much talking going on these days. Because of this i've been doing a lot of tv watching and music listening and editing. My family is so wonderful they bought me flowers.

this is Alayna...

music, shmusic

Photobucket

I know, I know it's been a while. I don't even have a super long post, but I wanted to share a few musical things that i'm really enjoying right now...

I don't know how I missed out on this documentary, but it's fabulous. It's about Mumford & Sons so I knew I'd love it... but it's also filmed really beautifully and it's just awesome. It's called, 'Gentlemen of The Road' and there's four parts... so make sure to watch all of them. Part 1 is below and 2, 3, 4.

Frightened Rabbit is one of my favorite bands and they are coming out with a new EP called, State Hospital EP on September 24th. The video for the single off the album is below. Super sad video, but the song is great. I love everything about this band... one of my forever favorites. I can't wait to hear the rest of the EP, I know it's going to be great.

I love this song, it's just so good. This type of music fills my head with so many different images and colors and so much movement. I don't know if that makes sense... but it's just a captivating song...

Since it's September I've begun the process of trying to convince the sun and the weather that it needs to be cold. I do this by wearing scarves and sweaters and other Fall type clothing, (even though the temps are still in the high 90's) and I've also created a Fall playlist. I'll be adding to it over the next few months... but this is what I have so far:

On this playlist there is one of the most brilliant things I've ever heard... Mumford and Sons covering Simon & Garfunkel with Paul Simon. They did a cover of "The Boxer" and it's completely wonderful. Again, I don't know how I missed out on this but it's incredible or at least to me it is. I'm obviously a huge Mumford & Sons fan, but I'm also a HUGE Simon & Garfunkel fan... like huge. So to have the two together gives me chills. It
s off the album Traveler by Jerry Douglas. I'll be honest I didn't know who this dude was, so I Wikipedia'd him. He's a resonator guitar player and record producer... so that's cool. He's recorded with a crap ton of artists and he plays with some cool people on this album.

I apologize if you don't like Mumford (since this has turned into a serious Mumford & Sons fangirl post) and I apologize if you don't have Spotify because then this post will be completely wasted on you.

Albums out today:

Cat Power - Sun
Two Door Cinema Club - Beacon
Imagine Dragons - Night Visions
Matchbox Twenty - North

Stars - The North
Lovedrug - Seasons EP

What have you been listening to lately?

summer sun

One of my friends had a birthday party at the end of July. Lots of kids and swimming and summer sun. Kids are so brilliant to photograph; completely pure. Adults are self-conscious and overly critical of their smiles and "arm fat". Kids for the most part just stare back. I love the ones that are curious about what's on the other side of the lens... inching closer and closer. I've had kids try and eat my lens more than once.
